Grant: $12,000 SoundSafe Grant to Independent Arts and Media & The Bay Bridged. $10,000 for Rock Make Festival and $2,000 for the Recording Grant Program.
The Bay Bridged uses new media and live events to support San Francisco Bay Area's independent rock, folk, and pop music communities. Our organization is committed to two principal purposes: 1) to maintain a dedicated public education campaign to encourage public appreciation of San Francisco Bay Area independent music; and 2) to provide unique creative opportunities for local musicians to receive exposure, collaborate, and create original works.
Rock Make Festival: The Bay Bridged has produced the Rock Make Street Festival, an all day street fair featuring twelve Bay Area bands and fifty local arts and crafts vendors annually since 2008. The first event was attended by over 4,000 people. The second doubled in attendance to over 8,000 people, and was even larger in 2010. As a free, all ages, family‐oriented daytime street event, the Rock Make Street Festival makes local music more accessible to the general public than it is in any other environment during the year. SoundSafe grant will used to help produce the Rock Make Street Festival. This may include marketing and promotion of the festival, and paying performing musicians. SoundSafe will be given exposure at the festival and online and all marketing materials, as a major sponsor.
Recording Grant Program: In 2009 and early 2010, The Bay Bridged partnered with local recording studio Tiny Telephone to create a recording grant program to help local musicians complete recording projects. In that program, The Bay Bridged awarded available recording dates at Tiny Telephone to local independent musicians at discounted rates. Participating musicians were selected from applications to The Bay Bridged, based on need and artistic merit. SoundSafe grant will be awarded to local musicians to aid in completing the production of a recording project. Gifted money may help offset costs like the rental of studio time, the services of a recording engineer, the mastering of completed audio project, and the production of albums. Grantees will be selected based on aesthetic merit and the strength of their applications, and will be awarded small grants for use at a partnering San Francisco recording studio. The Bay Bridged will actively promote and document the recording project through our online media presence with special attention to making sure that SoundSafe is highlighted in this promotion and documentation.
